How are countries selected to compete at the Olympics?
Q. For example, countries like Canada, Russia, China, Usa, are always at the Olympics. Why isnt Vietnam, or Africa, or Iran or those countries in the Olympics? Do they have to go through a process or long application to be accepted into the Olympics? Why dont those countries have a National Team to compete at International/world levels?

A. How countries (territories, dependents and geographical areas) are selected to compete in the Olympics is by getting recognized by the International Olympic Committee. In 2004 Athens out of the 202 National Olympic Committees (NOCS) only Djibouti didn't participate. 2008 Beijing 3 new NOCs have been admitted Pacific Island nations of Tuvalu , Marshall Islands and Montenegro which declared its independence from the Serbian Republic. Next step which I believe your driving at is the athletes themselves that is all decided from how well the athletes do in their respective countries at world championships and other Olympic qualifying events as well as regional Olympic qualifying events. This determines the number of athletes or sport teams… [cont.]

What countries have the toughest prisons and punishments?
Q. I've always wanted to know what the prisons + punishments are like in different countries. What country would you say has the toughest prisons?

A. Probably Mexico. Why do you think the criminals are fleeing to the USA. This is no joke. I had a friend spend 2 years in a Mexican prison for wrecking a car no less and he doesn't talk anymore. Some of my Mexican friends tell me the rape problem is real bad in Mexico. Like multiple times by multiple inmates daily. The worst torture of all. Hey the US has the highest incarceration rate in the world. I wonder why.

What civilized countries have the highest rate of child sexual abuse?
Q. I can't find a comparative list anywhere. What of the major countries has the highest rates of child sexual abuse. A simple bar graph would be great or even a list of the top ten countries. For some reason I cant find this list anywhere. I get that the subject is vague but come on! I can find homicide rates and Burglary rates. Why can't I find child sexual abuse rates? @George McCasland The problem with this answer is that I said Civilized country. Some third world hell hole doesn't count for this question.
Asked by discreet227 - Tue Apr 27 17:10:22 2010 - - 2 Answers - 1 Comments
A. Depends on your interpretation of child sexual abuse. The close physical contact between parents and their children in the Balkans would be considered child sexual abuse here. In certain cultures in India, mothers put their mouths over the genitals of male babies that are being especially fussy. Most boys in India remain within the family compound and do not get their first full set of clothes until age 7, when they start school. They simply run around naked. In the Amazon, sex play between young boys and girls is common among the tribes, right in the middle of the family hut. \\\

A. you will never be able to move in 1 month - that is impossible. Most immigration processes take at least 1 year - often longer. and you will need several thousand US dolars - if you dont have that money then you cannot pay sall the required fees and you will not have the required savings. PS the economy is rocky for ALL countries no matter where you go.

A. It is kind of hard to imagine at this point because America has two friendly neighbors on its' north and southern borders, two vast oceans to the east and west, two major mountain chains and a population that is heavily armed. Not to mention America's overall dominance in military might. No offense but it doesn't sound like that believable of a plot.

A. This is probably a holdover from the Latin language in which most countries have a feminine form in grammar.

Why do some countries like America use almost all automatic transmissions while others use manual?
Q. In America and Canada, (And where else?) 90% of cars are automatic, while in almost all other countries it is the opposite. Is that because a bulk of American roads are crowded highways or are more relaxed? Or is more agressive driving okay in other countries? Thanks.

What stops countries from using their nuclear weapons?
Q. With many countries having access to their own nuclear weapons/warheads; what keeps them from using them on other countries? If one country was to use a nuclear missle on another country, they would be out of harms way from any recoil that bomb should make. So why don't countries use them if they feel so threatened?

A. As one person already points out, MAD. MAD stands for Mutually Assured Destruction. Obviously this doesn't apply to all situations. What keeps one country from using its nukes against a country that doesn't have them? Two reasons, the country that doesn't have them may have allies that do, and any country that were to use them pre-emptively would be considered an outcast by most other nations.

What are the Countries that are within a 5 hour distance from Australia?
Q. My family is planning an overseas holiday, but my father will not tell me where we're going untill we get to the airport. However, I want to do research on the country before we get there. My father let slip that it was a 5 hour plane trip, so I was wondering what countries are within a 5 hour distance of Australia. Please help. Thank you.
Asked by sheridan - Mon Dec 28 21:42:35 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. It will depend entirely on which airport you will be leaving from. From Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, you would only be looking at the south west Pacific. (New Zealand, Fiji, Samoa, New Caledonia etc..) As it is near 4 hours to Darwin from Brisbane, to get to an Asian foreign country within the remaining hour, you would only get to Bali or East Timor. If flying from Darwin, it could be almost anywhere in South East Asia. 4 hours from Darwin to Vietnam. 4 and a 1/2 hours to Singapore. If flying from Cairns, about 4 and 1/2 hours to the Phillipines and many west Pacific countries are well within 5 hours. Looks like there are so many possibilities, you won't know for sure until you check in.

How are different countries better than each other at different sports?
Q. In the Olympics, how are some countries just naturally better at one sport than the other? Especially nowadays with technology and rigirous training. Is it just that DNA that produces that motion and mostly found in that country? Let's get deep on this.
Asked by Agent DMV - Sat Feb 20 01:44:07 2010 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. It's because some sports are more popular in certain countries than others. And the more people you have doing a sport, the better chance you have of having some really good, talented athletes. Also, when a sport has a lot of participants, that automatically brings in more and better coaches, more facilities, more state of the art equipment and training techniques. That's why Canada is better at hockey than the U.S. There's no genetic difference between Canadians and Americans... we come from the same backgrounds... it's just that hockey is more popular in Canada so they develop more and better players.

What countries have a bureaucratic type of leadership?
Q. I'm doing an essay for my Sociology class discussing countries that have bureaucratic styles of leaderships. I have to talk about their advantages and their disadvantages but I dont know where to start. I guess I'm just having writer's block which really sucks because it's due on Monday and I hoping to finish it by today so I can relax the rest of the weekend. Any help will be appreciated.

A. Mostly democracies. In a monarchy the leader say what must happen in the country and that a rule. In a democracy everything must write down, controlled, checked, fill in a fomular, file. The most bureaucracy you can find in germany. After the 2nd Wwar the allies made a system that somethink like a dictatorship never happen again and everything must be controlled from several political entities, authorities and administrative bodies. But this country made it that the most authorities and administrative bodies are corrupt now and germany works like a fascistic dictatorship. Only the citizen must fill in many formulars for everything.

A. I suggest getting your GED asap if you haven't already, then find a company that has locations available in countries you would like to live in. Work for that company for a while, do good work and get in with the boss and see if he can get you a job with the company in the country of your choice.
